Planet Labs To Acquire RapidEye

Planet Labs announced a definite agreement to acquire BlackBridge's geospatial business. Planet Labs is a company established in 2011 from three former NASA engineers and has rapidly grown to an earth-observation company with over 100 employees up to date. It is well known for the world-largest constellation Flock-1 consisting of 28 nano-satellites called Doves. Blackbridge is an established company known for the high spatial resolution RapidEye multispectral constellation consisting of 5 satellites and launched since 2008. Ryan Johnson, BlackBridge's CEO, who will continue contributing in the RapidEye endeavours through Planet Labs' executive team, emphasized on the importance of agriculture, as well as other natural resources, for the professional land managers and mentioned that information extracted from earth observation on land changes can aid on better policy decisions.
